Children who are baptized Catholic and typically in 2nd grade or older may begin preparation for First Reconciliation and First Communion.
Preparation normally takes two years of Faith Formation. Children should be consistently enrolled in faith formation before receiving the sacraments, or must be receiving formation at home thru an approved homeschool program
The Church teaches that children should receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation first so they may approach the Eucharist with a heart prepared to receive Jesus.
Faith Formation sessions take place on Tuesdays from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM at the St. Thomas Aquinas Faith Formation Center and follow the Dickinson ISD school calendar.
Yes. Parents are the primary educators of their children in the faith, so parent sessions and participation in sacramental preparation events are required.

No. Children must be actively enrolled and participating in a parish faith formation program, Catholic school, or approved home-based catechesis program.
At Shrine of the True Cross, our First Communion preparation seeks to help children encounter Jesus Christ truly present in the Eucharist and grow in a lifelong love for the Mass. Through prayer, catechesis, family involvement, and participation in parish life, we guide children to understand the gift of the Sacrament of the Eucharist and to approach it with faith and reverence.
Rooted in the mission of our parish, our program forms young disciples who are Formed in Truth, Living in Charity, helping them deepen their relationship with Christ and become active members of the Church.
