At Shrine of the True Cross Catholic Church, the mission of our Faith Formation program is to accompany children, youth, and adults in a lifelong journey of discipleship with Jesus Christ. Rooted in Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and the sacramental life of the Church, we strive to form hearts and minds in the fullness of the Catholic faith.
Through prayer, catechesis, community, and service, we seek to help every person encounter Christ, grow in their relationship with Him, and become active members of the Church who share the Gospel in their daily lives.
Guided by our parish motto, “Formed in Truth, Living in Charity,” we are committed to cultivating a vibrant faith that is deeply rooted in truth and expressed through love, service, and communion with the Church.
Does my child need to attend Faith Formation every year?
Yes. Faith Formation is meant to be an ongoing journey. While many families think about enrolling only during the years when their child is preparing to receive a sacrament, the Church encourages children to participate in Faith Formation every year. Continuous formation helps children deepen their understanding of the faith and strengthen their relationship with Christ.
When do Faith Formation sessions take place?
Faith Formation sessions take place on Tuesdays from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM at the St. Thomas Aquinas Faith Formation Center.
Does the program follow the school calendar?
Yes. Our Faith Formation program follows the Dickinson ISD (DISD) school calendar, which helps families plan around school holidays and breaks.
What will my child learn in Faith Formation?
Children will learn about Sacred Scripture, the teachings of the Catholic Church, prayer, the Sacraments, and how to live their faith in daily life. Our program is designed to help children grow spiritually while building a strong foundation in the Catholic faith.
What if my child has not been baptized?
Children who have not yet been baptized are very welcome. Depending on their age, they may enter a preparation process through the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults adapted for children (OCIA) so they can receive the Sacraments of Initiation.
What if my child is preparing for First Communion or Confirmation?
Preparation for the Sacraments takes place within the Faith Formation program. Children typically participate in two consecutive years of preparation while continuing their regular catechesis and participating in the life of the parish.
What happens if my child misses a class?
If a child must miss a session, parents may be asked to help their child complete the lesson at home so they can stay on track with the program. Our team will gladly provide guidance and resources when needed.
Do parents need to participate in the program?
Parents are the primary educators of their children in the faith. Throughout the year we offer parent sessions, sacramental meetings, and parish events to support families in living the faith together at home.
Who can I contact if I have more questions?
